A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING KYLE HANKS, SUMMER HUGHES, QIANA MARTIN, EUGENIA WEBB, AND NICHOLAS WHITNER AND THEIR ADVISOR, ANGELA BLACKSTON HAMILTON OF OCONEE COUNTY FOR THEIR SUPERB REPRESENTATION OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA IN NATIONAL HISTORY DAY LAST YEAR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND.

Whereas, five outstanding Seneca Middle School students represented South Carolina in National History Day, June 14-18, 1992, at the University of Maryland; and

Whereas, these five students, Kyle Hanks, Summer Hughes, Qiana Martin, Eugenia Webb, and Nicholas Whitner, are now ninth grade students at Seneca High School; and

Whereas, while participating in National History Day last year at the University of Maryland, this team of students was ranked ninth in the country in the media category and was named the "Outstanding Entry from South Carolina"; and

Whereas, the team's media presentation, "Our Town, Seneca, South Carolina: The Cultivation of Equal Rights", dealt with the national civil rights movement and equated what was happening nationally with what was occurring in Seneca in a comparable time period; and

Whereas, a copy of the team's video tape entry has been placed, by request, in the Black History Collections of the South Carolina State Museum; and

Whereas, the team's advisor, Angela Blackston Hamilton, of the Seneca Middle School History Club, did a marvelous job of getting these outstanding students ready to compete; and

Whereas, they represented South Carolina magnificently and are highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes Kyle Hanks, Summer Hughes, Qiana Martin, Eugenia Webb, and Nicholas Whitner and their advisor, Angela Blackston Hamilton of Oconee County for their superb representation of the State of South Carolina in National History Day last year at the University of Maryland.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to these outstanding students in care of Mrs. Angela Blackston Hamilton, Seneca Middle School, P.O. Box 607, Seneca, South Carolina 29679.
