TO CONGRATULATE MISS LORRI SHEALY OF LEXINGTON COUNTY FOR BEING FEATURED IN THE SUCCESS STORIES SECTION OF THE LEXINGTON COUNTY CHRONICLE.
Whereas, Lorri Shealy comes from a family of leaders: her father, Ryan, and her sister, Sherry, are former state senators; her mother is a successful busnesswoman and retired executive of World Book Encyclopedia; and her brother, Rod, is a former county Republican Party chairman; and
Whereas, Lorri credits the encouragement that came from her family for her spectacular success as a third-year law student at Carolina; and
Whereas, she is editor in chief of the American Bar Association Real Property, Probate and Trust Journal and has just been named winner of the Compleat Lawyer Award, the school's top honor; and
Whereas, she will graduate next month and will have won more than a dozen honors and awards at USC including finishng first in her class in the College of Journalism, serving as president of the USC Society of Professional Journalists, and being named USC Outstanding Senior and USC Outstanding Woman of the Year in 1990-91; and
Whereas, at Lexington High School she was student body president her senior year (1985-86), student body secretary the year before, captain of the marching band color guard, and was the school's first winner of the Atlas Award; and
Whereas, she also tried her hand at beauty pageant competition because of the scholarships it offered, and she won the titles of Miss Lexington, Miss South Congaree, Miss Southern 500, and Miss Columbia and finished in the top ten in the Miss South Carolina cmpetition; and
Whereas, she credits Lexington High School with giving her a foundation for leadership as well as the teachers there who prepared her for college; and
Whereas, the accomplishments of so successful a young lady should be recognized and commended. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Miss Lorri Shealy of Lexington County and commend her for being featured in the success stories section of the Lexington County Chronicle.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Miss Lorri Shealy of Lexington County.
