A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 59-5-65, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION, SO AS TO REQUIRE THE BOARD TO DEVELOP A UNIFORM GRADING SYSTEM WHICH MUST BE USED IN ALL ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM OF THIS STATE BEGINNING WITH SCHOOL YEAR 1996-97.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 59-5-65 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 164 of 1993, is further amended by adding an appropriately numbered item to read:

"( ) Develop a uniform grading system which must be used in all elementary and secondary schools of the public school system of this State beginning with school year 1996-97, and promulgate those regulations necessary to implement the provisions of this item."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
