A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO OFFER THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ONE OF THE STATE'S MOST PROMINENT COLLEGE PRESIDENTS, DR. LEONARD E. DAWSON, UPON TEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP AT VOORHEES COLLEGE.

Whereas, Dr. Leonard E. Dawson is the sixth president of Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina and his untiring efforts and leadership have brought about significant improvements to the institution; and

Whereas, Dr. Dawson's leadership has greatly enhanced the overall quality of academic programs and the number of majors has doubled during his tenure; and

Whereas, Dr. Dawson's personal involvement in recruiting students has helped to increase enrollment by nearly 35%; and

Whereas, Dr. Dawson has attracted numerous academic scholars and the number of faculty with doctoral degrees has doubled; and

Whereas, Dr. Dawson has increased revenue from private gifts and grants for this institution of higher learning; and

Whereas, Dr. Dawson's sound management and stewardship of the College's finances erased a $1.4 million cumulative deficit and lead to an annual operating surplus for the past 10 years during which time the operating budget of the College has quadrupled; and

Whereas, Dr. Dawson has spearheaded 8 million dollars of physical plant improvements that include the construction of two new debt free buildings and significant renovations in existing buildings. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, and the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General assembly recognize the outstanding achievements of Dr. Leonard E. Dawson, the sixth President of Voorhees College.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Leonard E. Dawson.
