A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE OUTSTANDING CAREER AND LIFETIME ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE LEGENDARY BASKETBALL COACH OF GREAT FALLS HIGH SCHOOL, COACH JOHN SMITH, TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON THE MILESTONE OF HIS 500TH WIN AS THE LEADER OF BOYS' BASKETBALL AT GREAT FALLS HIGH AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUING SUCCESS IN THE YEARS AHEAD.

Whereas, Mr. John Smith began his life's work in coaching high school basketball at Great Falls High School in 1969 and has served his entire 27 year coaching career at Great Falls High; and

Whereas, Coach Smith has brought acclaim to himself and to the program he carries on at Great Falls High in amassing a Boys' Varsity record of 502 wins to 185 losses; and

Whereas, There are few coaches at any level of competition who can proudly claim a career winning percentage of 73% and a trophy collection which stands as impressive testimony to 7 Upper State Championships and 2 State Championships in 1977 and 1992; and

Whereas, In his spare time Coach Smith has also coached the Great Falls High School Girls' squad to 58 victories; and

Whereas, Coach John Smith reached the most impressive milestone of his brilliant career to date in bringing home his 500th win with the Great Falls Boys' Squad on February 9, 1996; and

Whereas, This accomplishment further elevates Coach Smith's and Great Falls High School's singular claim to the record of the MOST WINS IN BOYS' BASKETBALL of any high school in the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the South Carolina Senate recognizes the outstanding career and lifetime accomplishments of the legendary basketball coach of Great Falls High School, Coach John Smith, and congratulates him on the milestone of his 500th win as the leader of boys' basketball at Great Falls High and wishes him continuing success in the years ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach John Smith.
