TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF MR. HARRY HOYLE ABERNATHY, JR. AND TO PAY TRIBUTE TO A GENTLEMAN WHOSE LIFE WAS DEDICATED TO HIS FAMILY AND TO SERVING HIS COMMUNITY.
Whereas, Harry Abernathy was a graduate of Mitchell College, Appalachian State Teachers College and the University of South Carolina School of Law; and
Whereas, Mr. Abernathy served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean conflict; and
Whereas, Harry Abernathy opened his law practice in Great Falls in 1959 and established his presence in the legal profession both locally and throughout the state and ably and capably served as the Great Falls Town Attorney from the times of its incorporation in 1968; and
Whereas, Harry Abernathy served as President of the Chester County Bar Association, the Chester-Lancaster Public Defender's Corporation, and the Great Falls Jaycees; and
Whereas, Harry Abernathy was a member of the Phi Delta Law Fraternity, the United States District Court Bar, and the South Carolina Bar Association; and
Whereas, the late Mr. Abernathy's lifelong dedication to serving his fellowman was embodied in his parting inscription, "I have lots of friends.", words which are indeed a true reflection of how loved and respected he was by so many, many people. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the Members of the South Carolina General Assembly express their deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Harry Hoyle Abernathy, Jr. and pay tribute to a gentleman whose life was dedicated to his family and to serving his community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Harry Abernathy.
