CELEBRATING FIFTY YEARS OF TREE FARMING IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND SALUTING THE SOUTH CAROLINA TREE FARM PROGRAM FOR ITS ACTIVITIES.
Whereas, the State of South Carolina is celebrating fifty years of tree farming in 1996; and
Whereas, the American Tree Farm System is a nationwide program which gives public recognition to nearly sixty thousand private forest owners who are doing an outstanding job of managing their forests to produce wood, wildlife habitat, recreation, aesthetics, and clean water; the American Tree Farm System is sponsored by the nation's wood-using industries through the American Forest Institute with the assistance of forestry organizations, public agencies, consulting foresters, and others; and
Whereas, the South Carolina Tree Farm Committee (SCTFC) is planning several projects in 1996 to celebrate and recognize this fiftieth anniversary; as an introduction, during the latter part of February the committee is planning a ceremony on the State House grounds at which the Governor is scheduled to read a proclamation and break ground for the planting of a fifteen-to-twenty-foot tall white oak; and
Whereas, tree farming in South Carolina has contributed greatly to the strong economy of the Palmetto State and has brought many benefits to all South Carolinians; and
Whereas, this fiftieth anniversary is an occasion deserving of special recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, celebrates fifty years of tree farming in South Carolina and salutes the South Carolina Tree Farm Program for its activities.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the South Carolina Tree Farm Committee, in care of Mr. Tom Patton, Past Chairman, and the South Carolina Forestry Association, in care of Mr. Robert R. Scott, President.
