TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO NAME THE TWIN OVERPASSES OF U.S. ROUTE 17 AT LOCKWOOD DRIVE AND THE CITY OF CHARLESTON ADJACENT TO THE ASHLEY RIVER FOR ERNIE L. PASSAILAIGUE.
Whereas, Senator Ernie L. Passailaigue, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest L. Passailaigue, has served in the South Carolina Senate since 1989;
and
Whereas, he is also involved in the Charleston business community as a certified public accountant in the firm of Passailaigue, Blanchard & Knight; and
Whereas, Senator Passailaigue graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree and then went further to receive his Masters in Business Administration from The Citadel; and
Whereas, he has dedicated himself to furthering the educational lives of young people by serving on the Board of Visitors at Charleston Southern University and as an associate professor at Baptist College; and
Whereas, he has promoted harmony in the Charleston community by his participation on the Sickle Cell Advisory Board for the Commission on Better Racial Assurance, and by his receipt of the South Carolina Annual Public Service Award from Common Cause; and
Whereas, Senator Passailaigue advanced his concern for the
community by demonstrating his interest in Alzheimer's disease by receiving the Legislator of the Year Award from the Mid-State South Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association; and
Whereas, Senator Passailaigue has generously donated his time in public service beyond the call of duty and has made himself knowledgeable on matters before the Senate ever watching out for the interests of South Carolinians to ensure the public good is served; and
Whereas, Senator Passailaigue has worked hard for the people of Charleston County seeking answers to the transportation and infrastructure problems of the area; and
Whereas, Senator Passailaigue has distinguished himself with a career of integrity, service, and generosity to the people of Charleston and the entire State; and
Whereas, in order to acknowledge Senator Passailaigue's many accomplishments and contributions to the State of South Carolina and the citizenry of Charleston, the members of the General Assembly believe it would be fitting to name a portion of South Carolina's highway system after Ernie L. Passailaigue. Now therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly request the Department of Transportation to name the twin overpasses of U.S. Route 17 at Lockwood Drive and the City of Charleston adjacent to the Ashley River for Ernie L. Passailaigue when construction is completed.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Senator Passailaigue.
