A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE MILEY CHURCH OF GOD'S OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENT OF BECOMING DEBT-FREE AND CELEBRATING THEIR MORTGAGE RETIREMENT.

Whereas, in 1986, Reverend Brevard J. Mitchell and the congregation of the Miley Church of God decided to relocate and build a new church; and

Whereas, Reverend Mitchell and his congregation decided to build the church in Varnville, South Carolina, and purchased two acres of land on Highway 363; and

Whereas, the construction began in January 1987 and the first worship service was conducted on the first Sunday of May 1988; and

Whereas, the total cost of construction was well over a quarter of a million dollars, which was acquired through a loan with Hampton County Bank; and

Whereas, the Church paid off the loan, and is out of debt after only eight (8) years without having any fundraising programs; and

Whereas, the Church celebrated this accomplishment on October 21, 1995, and is proud to note that their attendance has grown significantly over this time period from 30 adult members to an average of 90 to 105 members each Sunday.

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Miley Church of God on the occasion of their financial independence and being debt-free, and wishes the Church the best for years to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Brevard J. Mitchell and the congregation of the Miley Church of God.
