A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MS. PATRICIA M. GREEN OF BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA, UPON BEING NAMED SOUTH CAROLINA SMALL BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR FOR 1996.

Whereas, the members of the Senate are pleased to learn that the Columbia District Office of the United States Small Business Administration has named Ms. Patricia M. Green of Beaufort, South Carolina, South Carolina Small Business Person of the Year; and

Whereas, Ms. Green is the president and owner of The Chocolate Tree, Incorporated, of Beaufort; and

Whereas, The Chocolate Tree was incorporated in 1980 as a business specializing in the manufacturing, wholesale and retail of confections hand-made on the premises; and

Whereas, The Chocolate Tree has continued to grow and has expanded its services worldwide through a toll-free number and wholesale distribution to gift shops; and

Whereas, Ms. Green was nominated for this most distinguished recognition by the Beaufort Chamber of Commerce and the University of South Carolina-Beaufort Small Business Development Center for her dedicated work in community organizations; and

Whereas, Ms. Green has served as president of the Greater Beaufort Chamber of Commerce and on the Main Street Beaufort, USA, Board of Directors; and

Whereas, Ms. Green currently serves as a member of the Greater Beaufort Chamber of Commerce and as a commissioner for The Technical College of the Lowcountry; and

Whereas, Ms. Green has served as a role model for small business owners throughout the State through her hard work and dedication to her business and her community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Ms. Patricia M. Green upon being named South Carolina Small Business Person of the Year for 1996.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Green.
