A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MRS. DARLENE D. COX OF WEST COLUMBIA, AN OUTSTANDING MUSIC TEACHER WITH LEXINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT TWO, FOR HER DISTINGUISHED THIRTY-YEAR CAREER IN EDUCATION UPON HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, the members of the Senate have learned that Mrs. Darlene D. Cox of West Columbia will be retiring later this year after a distinguished thirty-year career in public education; and

Whereas, she is a graduate of Lexington High School and the University of South Carolina and began her teaching career in 1966 at the Horrell Hill Elementary School in Gadsden; and

Whereas, she joined Lexington School District Two in 1976 and now teaches at the Saluda River Elementary School in West Columbia in addition to teaching classes at other schools in the district; and

Whereas, in 1992, because of her innovative and creative teaching methods, Mrs. Cox was a recipient of Target 2000 Arts In Education grants award which provided a computerized keyboard program to her students at Saluda River Elementary, and in 1994 she was listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers; and

Whereas, she is a music teacher of extraordinary skill who has shared her love of music with her students over the years in addition to being active in many cultural affairs and civic endeavors in the community; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, on the occasion of her retirement would like to publicly recognize and thank her for the contributions she has made to the public school system of Lexington School District Two. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate hereby commend Mrs. Darlene D. Cox, a teacher with Lexington School District Two, for her distinguished thirty-year career in education upon her retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Darlene D. Cox.
