A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND EXTEND THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MRS. HAZEL LOVELACE OF GAFFNEY FOR HER LONG AND DISTINGUISHED CAREER AS AN EDUCATOR IN SOUTH CAROLINA UPON HER UPCOMING RETIREMENT AND WISH HER A FUTURE FULL OF GOOD HEALTH.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have recently learned that Hazel Lovelace has announced she is retiring in June after thirty years of dedicated service to the Cherokee County Schools; and

Whereas, Mrs. Lovelace is originally from North Carolina; she is a widow and the mother of two children; and

Whereas, Hazel Lovelace received her Master of Education degree from Winthrop; and

Whereas, she has been the Librarian at Gaffney High School since 1973; she was an English teacher at Chesnee High School from 1965 through 1966; and she taught English at Gaffney High School from 1966 until she became the Librarian; and

Whereas, Mrs. Lovelace was chosen as the District Teacher of the Year in 1991; and

Whereas, Hazel Lovelace has been an integral part of the Cherokee County Public Schools during many changes in South Carolina's educational reform; and

Whereas, her concern for others has long been recognized and has meant so much to countless students, parents, and colleagues; and

Whereas, this truly gifted teacher and lovely lady is uniformly known as a contributing member of her community, county, and State, possessed of the highest principles, and a faithful friend; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is delighted to have this opportunity to give thanks to this outstanding teacher, Hazel Lovelace, who has been thoroughly dedicated to excellence in public education in South Carolina and is to be highly commended for her efforts and accomplishments. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and extend their appreciation to Mrs. Hazel Lovelace of Gaffney for her long and distinguished career as an educator in South Carolina upon her upcoming retirement and wish her a future full of good health.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Hazel Lovelace.
