CONGRATULATING EDWARD S. ERVIN, III, OF SUMTER COUNTY ON THE HONOR BESTOWED UPON HIM BY FRANCIS MARION UNIVERSITY WHEREIN THE UNIVERSITY HAS NAMED ITS DINING HALL FOR HIM.
Whereas, Francis Marion University has honored Edward S. Ervin, III, of Sumter County by naming its dining hall for him; and
Whereas, the "Edward S. Ervin, III, Dining Hall" is a true testimonial for this very outstanding gentleman; and
Whereas, Mr. Ervin is a semi-retired Sumter insurance agent and served on Francis Marion's board of trustees since its creation in 1988 until last year; and
Whereas, before that, he served on a broader board that governed the operations of three colleges that are now universities: Lander College, the College of Charleston, and Francis Marion College (under the former State College Board of Trustees); and
Whereas, Mr. Ervin's service to higher education began when he joined the State College Board of Trustees in 1975; he was named chairman of the new Francis Marion board in 1991, and he retired in 1994 at the end of his term; and
Whereas, he has been a distinguished public servant over many years and is greatly deserving of the honor bestowed upon him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Edward S. Ervin, III, of Sumter County on the honor bestowed upon him by Francis Marion University wherein the University has named its dining hall for him.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Ervin.
