A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING THE HONORABLE ALEX CHATMAN OF WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS CHAIRMAN OF THE WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY COUNCIL AND AS COUNTY SUPERVISOR.

Whereas, the Honorable Alex Chatman of Williamsburg County was responsible during the past thirteen years for leading Williamsburg County Council to achieve the following:

(1) the County Complex building;

(2) community buildings in Trio, Central, Nesmith, Hemingway, and Bloomingvale;

(3) the Greeleyville Town Hall, a modern DSS building, an air conditioned complex auditorium for the performing arts, rural fire stations throughout the county; EMS Rural Fire Headquarters; quadrupled the county jail; a new Alcohol and Drug Abuse building and Transit building;

(4) computerization of most county offices;

(5) a policy of actually providing training for county employees;

(6) financial management that brought Williamsburg County from a negative fund balance to what appears to be the greatest fund balance in history;

(7) classification system for county employees that provides for longevity as well as cost of living increases;

(8) one of the best transit departments in the State;

(9) actually paid in full for nineteen new sheriff patrol cars for the first time in the history of Williamsburg County;

(10) the naming of roads for citizens who weren't recognized before;

(11) provided funding to assist in making sections of Williamsburg County an enterprise community; and

Whereas, Mr. Chatman has been a distinguished and dedicated public servant whose energy and efforts have helped Williamsburg County to grow; and

Whereas, he is highly deserving of commendation, and the General Assembly is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends the Honorable Alex Chatman of Williamsburg County for his many years of outstanding service as chairman of the Williamsburg County Council and as county supervisor.

Be it further resolved that this resolution be presented to the Honorable Alex Chatman.
