A JOINT RESOLUTION TO DIRECT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO INSTALL AN ELECTRONIC TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE INTERSECTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA ROUTE 20 AND LENHARDT ROAD IN GREENVILLE COUNTY.

Whereas, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has placed Baker's Chapel Elementary School in Greenville County on probationary status due in part to a hazardous traffic condition at the intersection of South Carolina Route 20 and Lenhardt Road that places students, parents, buses, and daycare vans in a life threatening situation every school day; and

Whereas, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has recommended that a traffic signal be placed at the intersection of South Carolina Route 20 and Lenhardt Road in its 1994-95 accreditation report; and

Whereas, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools' accreditation committee will be visiting Baker's Chapel Elementary School in March, 1995, to determine whether to remove the school from probationary status; and

Whereas, the placement of a traffic signal at the intersection of South Carolina Route 20 and Lenhardt Road will assist Baker's Chapel Elementary School in becoming accredited and remove a dangerous traffic condition in Greenville County. Now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Traffic signal installed

SECTION 1. The Department of Transportation is directed to install an electronic traffic signal at the intersection of South Carolina Route 20 and Lenhardt Road in Greenville County.

Time effective

SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
