A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING MR. FLETCHER LEE EVANS OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT OF THE STATE BROTHERHOOD AUXILIARY TO THE STATE BAPTIST EDUCATION AND MISSIONARY CONVENTION.

Whereas, Mr. Fletcher Lee Evans of Greenville County is a native of Greer and was educated in the Spartanburg County school system; and

Whereas, he is a graduate of Greenville Technical College, where he majored in industrial electronics, and a graduate of the Morris College School of Religion; he served in the United States Army for three years and is presently employed by GE Company, where he has twenty-four years of continuous and outstanding service; he is also a registered barber licensed by the State of South Carolina and a Third Degree Prince Hall Mason; and

Whereas, Mr. Evans is a devoted and very active member of New Hope Baptist Church in Greer; he is the current president of the Baptist Brotherhood Convention of South Carolina and a member of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc.; and he is also the recipient of several prestigious awards recognizing his religious contributions and services; and

Whereas, throughout his five years as President of the State Brotherhood Auxiliary to the State Baptist Education and Missionary Convention, Mr. Evans has accomplished many things, including the following: (1) adding twenty-five churches and thirteen associations to the auxiliary; (2) adding a second day to the annual one-day convention session; (3) establishing a Track and Field Event for male youths which is held annually in some parts of the State; (4) initiating the Annual Mid-Winter Banquet for the State Brotherhood Auxiliary; (5) founding the Morris College Spirit Club, a fund-raising club for the college; (6) helping to raise $75,000 for Morris College; (7) helping to raise $25,000 for Benedict College; and (8) leading groups of brotherhood members to Daufuskie Island to restore the historic First Union Baptist Church, which had deteriorated immensely over the years; and

Whereas, Mr. Evans clearly is a dynamic leader, a wonderful planner and organizer, and an outstanding individual whose qualities and accomplishments make him greatly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Mr. Fletcher Lee Evans of Greenville County for his outstanding accomplishments as President of the State Brotherhood Auxiliary to the State Baptist Education and Missionary Convention.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Evans.
