A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND EXTEND SINCERE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO "CITY YEAR COLUMBIA" FOR THEIR MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MIDLANDS OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to learn of City Year Columbia's valuable support services and many contributions to the Midlands of South Carolina; and

Whereas, the concept of voluntary national service has captivated the American civic imagination for generations; and

Whereas, the name City Year represents the idea that a year of service should be part of growing up for every young person; and

Whereas, during the summer of 1993, City Year Columbia became the first national expansion site of the highly successful youth corps City Year Boston; and

Whereas, City Year Columbia involves fifty-five young adults, ages seventeen through twenty-three, in an innovative community service and leadership training program; and

Whereas, the corp members, from a diversity of racial, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds, work in teams from September to June to serve the Columbia Community; and

Whereas, all of these fine young men and women exemplify the type of young adults we are all proud to have represent our communities, State, and Nation by empowering young people to make a difference; and

Whereas, the City Year Corps has a well-deserved reputation for being energetic, dependable, dedicated, and determined to distinguish themselves as an outstanding, hardworking group of young adults; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, as well as the citizens of the State of South Carolina, are truly appreciative of the many invaluable services and contributions provided by City Year Columbia's volunteers. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and extend sincere congratulations to these fantastic young adults representing the "City Year Columbia" program.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to City Year Columbia.
