TO CONGRATULATE MRS. SANDRA R. LEATHERWOOD OF ST. MARTIN DE PORRES CATHOLIC SCHOOL IN COLUMBIA UPON BEING NOMINATED FOR THE NATIONAL AWARD OF "OUTSTANDING TEACHER OF MATH AND SCIENCE" AND TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CATHOLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM.
Whereas, Mrs. Sandra R. Leatherwood of Columbia recently has been nominated for the national award of "Outstanding Teacher of Math and Science", culminating an eighteen-year career in the classroom; and
Whereas, Mrs. Leatherwood earned her degree from the University of South Carolina after growing up in Alabama; and
Whereas, a product of Catholic schools, she developed her love of teaching early in life through encouragement from a teacher at The Most Pure Heart of Mary in Mobile, Alabama; and
Whereas, Mrs. Leatherwood is an elementary school teacher at St. Martin de Porres Catholic School where she not only accepts her students as individuals but takes each one to heart without regard to race, age, sex, or economic condition; and
Whereas, Mrs. Leatherwood has been married to Cleveland Leatherwood for the past twenty-five years and they are the proud parents of three children, all graduates of Catholic schools; and
Whereas, in addition to her duties as a teacher in the Catholic school system, Mrs. Leatherwood is an instructor in a manipulative math process for other teachers across the United States, serves as an officer of the Diocesan Board of Christian Education, and is an active member of St. Peter's Parish in Columbia; and
Whereas, Mrs. Leatherwood has brought recognition to herself and her family, the Catholic school system, and her many students and friends through her dedication to the teaching profession and her involvement with a national program on manipulative math process for young students. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Sandra R. Leatherwood of St. Martin de Porres Catholic School in Columbia upon being nominated for the national award of "Outstanding Teacher of Math and Science" and express deep appreciation for her many years of dedicated service to the Catholic school system.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Leatherwood.
