A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE SWANSEA HIGH SCHOOL "LADY TIGERS" VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE 1995 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina have recently learned that the Swansea High School "Lady Tigers" Varsity Basketball Team have captured the 1995 Class AA State Championship; and

Whereas, the "Lady Tigers" won the Class AA State Championship by defeating Carolina 49-42 on Saturday, March 11, 1995, at Carolina Coliseum; and

Whereas, coming into a high-stakes game was nothing new for the Tigers, who defeated regional rival Columbia, last year's state champ, three times in overtime this season; and

Whereas, this win capped a 26-2 1994-95 season for the talented Swansea Girls Basketball Team; and

Whereas, all the citizens of Swansea are genuinely proud of the team's accomplishments, which are greatly deserving of recognition; and

Whereas, Coach Gina Cooper is to be commended for the outstanding contribution as a coach, and the example she sets as an individual; and

Whereas, the "Lady Tigers" by winning this State Championship have brought honor and distinction to the students, faculty, and staff of Swansea High School. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Swansea High School "Lady Tigers" Varsity Basketball Team on winning the 1995 Class AA State Championship.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Gina Cook and Principal Larry Radon.
