TO AMEND SECTION 24-25-90, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO PERSONNEL OF PALMETTO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 1 WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, SO AS TO REQUIRE A TEMPORARY TEACHING CERTIFICATE WITH A LIMITED DURATION TO BE ISSUED TO CERTAIN PERSONS EMPLOYED OR FORMERLY EMPLOYED AS A CLASSROOM TEACHER BY THE DISTRICT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 24-25-90 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"Section 24-25-90. (A) The superintendent of the district and all other educational personnel shall be employed, supervised, and terminated according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections' personnel policies and procedures.
(B) Any person who for a period of at least ten consecutive years prior to January 1, 1992, taught as a classroom teacher at the Department of Corrections in Palmetto Unified School District No. 1 under a temporary teaching certificate which was issued and renewed annually pursuant to a provision in Part I of the annual general appropriations act for each of those years must be issued a temporary teaching certificate by the Department of Education which shall allow that person to continue teaching at the same level and grade in which he or she taught during this ten-year period until such time as that person leaves the employ of Palmetto Unified School District No. 1."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
