A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 12-14-35 SO AS TO INCLUDE AS AN ECONOMIC IMPACT ZONE FOR PURPOSES OF THE ECONOMIC IMPACT ZONE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ACT OF 1995 A COUNTY OR MUNICIPALITY ANY PORTION OF WHICH IS WITHIN FIFTY MILES OF THE BOUNDARIES OF A SITE UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY USED TO PRODUCE FISSIONABLE MATERIAL FOR NUCLEAR WEAPONS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Chapter 14, Title 12 of the 1976 Code, as added by an act of 1995 bearing ratification number 21, is amended by adding:

"Section 12-14-35. For purposes of this chapter, `economic impact zone' also includes a county or municipality any portion of which is located within fifty miles of the boundaries of a site under the control of the United States Department of Energy any part of which was used at any time for the production of fissionable material for the nation's nuclear weapons programs."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
