TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 20-7-505 SO AS TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES TO INVESTIGATE THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF A CHILD IN A HOME IN WHICH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OCCURS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 20-7-505. When a law enforcement officer receives a report of domestic violence, this information must be reported to the Department of Social Services. The department shall treat such a case as suspected report of abuse and shall investigate as in other reports of abuse to determine if the child has been harmed."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
