A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO ESTABLISH A COMMITTEE TO STUDY THE ADEQUACY OF THE COMPENSATION OF CORRECTIONS OFFICERS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND OFFICERS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE JUSTICE CHARGED WITH SUPERVISION OF THE PERSONS COMMITTED TO THE DEPARTMENT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. A study committee of seven members is hereby established to study the adequacy of the compensation of corrections officers of the Department of Corrections and officers of the Department of Juvenile Justice charged with supervision of the persons committed to the department.

The committee shall be composed of seven members to be appointed by the Governor, with one member to be appointed from each congressional district of this State, and one member to be appointed from the State at-large who shall serve as chairman. The committee shall report its recommendations to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate no later than September 1, 1995, at which time it shall be dissolved. Members of the committee shall receive the usual mileage, subsistence, and per diem paid by law to members of state boards, commissions, and committees to be paid from funds of the Office of the Governor. The committee in the discharge of its functions may receive such help from the staff of the standing committees of the General Assembly as it considers necessary.

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
