A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MR. EDWARD S. ERVIN, III, ONE OF SUMTER'S MOST PROMINENT BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS, UPON THE NAMING OF THE DINING HALL AT FRANCIS MARION UNIVERSITY AS THE EDWARD S. ERVIN III DINING HALL.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned with great delight that Francis Marion University on January 26, 1995, will name the dining hall at this fine university as the Edward S. Ervin III Dining Hall; and

Whereas, Edward S. Ervin, III, is one of Sumter's most prominent business and civic leaders. He is president and owner of the Ervin Adjustment Company in Sumter and is a past member of the South Carolina Claims Management Association and the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters; and

Whereas, he was elected to the State College Board of Trustees in 1975, he was a member of the Planning and Development Committee for Francis Marion University and served as secretary of the board from 1986 through 1988 when the Francis Marion University Board of Trustees was established in 1988, he served as vice chairman from 1988 through 1991, and chairman from 1991 through 1993; and

Whereas, Francis Marion University, which was established by the South Carolina General Assembly in 1970, is one of this state's foremost distinguished institutions of higher learning and offers numerous programs of study in the liberal arts and professional programs in education, business, the sciences, and technology to students of the Pee Dee and throughout South Carolina and the southeast; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate Mr. Ervin and Francis Marion University on the occasion of the naming of the dining hall in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate hereby congratulate Mr. Edward S. Ervin, III, one of Sumter's most prominent business and civic leaders, upon the naming of the dining hall at Francis Marion University as the Edward S. Ervin III Dining Hall.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Ervin and to President Lee A. Vickers of Francis Marion University.
