A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF JAMES C. SELF, JR., OF GREENWOOD COUNTY AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE MEMBERS OF HIS FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly learned with shock and great sadness the news of the untimely death at age fifty-two of James C. Self, Jr., of Greenwood County; and

Whereas, he was struck and killed on Thursday, May 4, 1995, while walking to his car across U.S. Highway 25 in front of a restaurant; and

Whereas, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Greenwood Mills, Inc., and Greenwood Development Corporation; and

Whereas, he was an outstanding longtime Greenwood businessman and benefactor and was integral to the operation of Greenwood Mills; and

Whereas, he was well-known and highly regarded across the State of South Carolina and was admired and loved by countless individuals for his intelligence, compassion, humanitarianism, vision, generosity, and leadership; and

Whereas, his death is a tremendous loss to the City of Greenwood and Greenwood County and in truth, also to the State, and we want the members of his family and his many friends to know that they are uppermost in our thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow and have our deepest sympathy. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, expresses profound sorrow at the death of James C. Self, Jr., of Greenwood County and extends deepest sympathy to the members of his family and his many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Self's family.
