A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF MR. JOSEPH T. THOMAS, SR., OF LYNCHBURG WHO DIED THURSDAY, MAY 11, 1995.

Whereas, Mr. Joseph T. Thomas, Sr., of Lynchburg died Thursday, May 11, 1995; and

Whereas, a son of Walter and Eliza George Thomas and the husband of Mary Solomon Thomas, Mr. Thomas was a member of Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Church serving as trustee, class leader, and superintendent of the Sunday School for over twenty-five years; and

Whereas, Mr. Thomas served with distinction in the U.S. Army, receiving five Battle Stars and two Good Conduct Medals; and

Whereas, Mr. Thomas was active with the Wateree Community Actions, Inc., serving for a number of years as vice president; and

Whereas, Mr. Thomas was an active and valuable member of the community. Among the many accomplishments and honors received for his contributions were: Recognition for outstanding volunteer services in 1975; appointment as Magistrate by Governor Riley in 1981; 1990 Civic Hall of Fame Award, New Era Teen Center; honored by the House of Representatives as Board Member of the Year for Wateree Community Actions in 1991; honored by Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Church in appreciation of thirty years of outstanding service in 1991; 1991 Certificate of Appreciation, devoted services, Do Right Masonic Lodge #377; and 1994 recognition from the Lee County Magistrate Association. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Joseph T. Thomas, Sr., of Lynchburg who died Thursday, May 11, 1995.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Joseph T. Thomas, Sr.
