A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE YELLOW JACKETS OF GREER HIGH SCHOOL ON WINNING THE 1994 STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN CLASS AAA.

Whereas, the Yellow Jackets of Greer High School defeated Manning High School by a score of 22-7 on December 3, 1994, to win the 1994 state football championship in Class AAA; and

Whereas, the state game was played at Williams Brice Stadium at the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, the Yellow Jackets of Greer High School, in defeating Manning, secured it's third state football crown; and

Whereas, the Yellow Jackets completed the 1994 campaign with a superb 15-0 overall record, being named the 1994 Foothills Region Champion, the 1994 Upper State Champion and the 1994 State Champion; and

Whereas, the Yellow Jackets defense recorded nine shutouts, averaging 3.0 points per game, while the Yellow Jackets offense averaged 30 points per game; and

Whereas, the 1994 Yellow Jackets football roster included the following young men: Neil Morris, Chubby Martin, Carlos Moss, Ryan Burns, Lee Dumas, Justin Hill, Terrance Glover, Brent Hunter, Kamell Evans, Lamont Williams, Shane Hughes, Tommy Taylor, Hassan Smith, Mark Downs, Jerome Rogers, Marco Jones, Andre Williams, Alex Downs, Darius Rapley, Michael Jones, Jay Cartee, Brian Talley, John Dobson, Lawan Bruton, Lejerik Cannon, Scoot Watson, Jeremy Davis, Lamont Grady, Tamaya Ellis, Brandon Lanave, Travis Crain, Knox White, Keith Porter, Jason Collins, Jason Burr, Andy Hastings, D. K. Hardin, Sy Hughes, Shane Dover, Michael Foster, Kevin Sherman, Sammy Hammonds, Terry Haney, Derrick Bruton, John Scott, Roderick Kelly, and Zach Leoffels; and

Whereas, the head coach of the team is Stuart Holcombe and the assistant coaches include Steve Woodward, Joel Rice, Brian Smith, Robby Wells, Travis Perry, David Smith, Reuben Wright, Les Fiske, Steve Watson, Butch Hopkins and William Fleming; and

Whereas, the citizens of Greer and Greenville County were delighted with the Yellow Jackets 1994 State Title and has made Senator J. Verne Smith exceptionally proud; and

Whereas, the Senate of South Carolina is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize the Yellow Jackets of Greer High School and to salute them for their outstanding accomplishments on the football field and in the classroom. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the Yellow Jackets of Greer High School on winning the 1994 State Football Championship in Class AAA.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Yellow Jacket football team of Greer High School, in care of Head Coach Stuart Holcombe.
