A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-5-1527 SO AS TO PROVIDE A MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT FOR TWO OR THREE-UNIT COMBINATION TRAILERS AND SEMITRAILERS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 56-5-1527. A trailer or semitrailer operating in a two or three-unit combination must:

(1) not be driven at a speed in excess of sixty-five miles an hour along portions of the interstate highway system with a posted speed of sixty-five miles an hour before the enactment of the Federal Highway Designation Act of 1995; and

(2) not be driven at a speed in excess of fifty-five miles an hour along all other highways and portions of the interstate highway system."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
