A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING SPARTANBURG HIGH SCHOOL ON WINNING THE 1995 CLASS AAAA, DIVISION 1 STATE FOOTBALL CROWN.

Whereas, Spartanburg High School clinched its second consecutive Class AAAA, Division 1 state football crown by defeating previously unbeaten Sumter High School 24-14 on December 2, 1995, at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia; and

Whereas, in winning the 1995 title, the Vikings of Spartanburg extended their winning streak to thirty football games--a remarkable accomplishment at the top level of high school competition in the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, the Vikings also clinched their second consecutive unbeaten season; and

Whereas, three players from the Viking football squad were named to the 1995 Associated Press All-State Football Team--namely, Brian Wofford at the position of wide receiver, Rickie Hardy on the offensive line, and Jarvis Davis at defensive back; and

Whereas, Spartanburg High was guided by Head Coach Doc Davis and a superb coaching and support staff; and

Whereas, the Vikings' talent, determination, hard work, and unity paid off in a big way in 1995; and

Whereas, Spartanburg High School's 1995 state title in football is an accomplishment highly deserving of special recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Spartanburg High School on winning the 1995 Class AAAA, Division 1, state football crown.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the football team of Spartanburg High School, in care of Head Coach Doc Davis.
