TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE MR. THOMAS R. JOHNSON, SR., VETERANS AFFAIRS OFFICER FOR CHARLESTON COUNTY, WHO HAS PROVIDED OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO VETERANS AND BENEFICIARIES OF VETERANS IN HIS SERVICE AREA AND FOR THE MANY OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS HE HAS MADE IN THIS CAPACITY WHICH HE HAS HELD FOR THE PAST THIRTY YEARS.
Whereas, during his tenure as Veterans Officer for Charleston County, Mr. Thomas R. Johnson, Sr., has provided direct service to more than six hundred and fifty thousand citizens of Charleston County; and
Whereas, these matters range from military and civil service widow's benefits to processing more than one hundred fifty thousand claims filed with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs; and
Whereas, these claims are for disabilities incurred while in the service or for widows whose husbands served their country; and
Whereas, as a result of this effort over one hundred million federal dollars has been infused into the local economy by this work over the past forty-two years; and
Whereas, Mr. Johnson began work as the Assistant Veterans Affairs Officer on August 1, 1954; and
Whereas, in 1966 he was selected as the Veterans Affairs Officer by the Charleston County Legislative Delegation; and
Whereas, during his able service over the past thirty years he has selfishly given of himself to benefit the many people with whom he has come in contact; and
Whereas, Mr. Johnson is a member of the Charleston County Committee on Americans with Disabilities and a founding member of American Legion Post 147, where he serves as Post Service Officer. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Mr. Thomas R. Johnson, Sr., Veterans Affairs Officer for Charleston County, who has provided outstanding service to veterans and beneficiaries of veterans in his service area and for the many other contributions he had made in this capacity which he has held for the past thirty years.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Thomas R. Johnson, Sr.
