A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO EXAMINE ITS HIGHWAY PATROL DIVISION'S USE OF UNMARKED PATROL VEHICLES TO DETERMINE WHETHER THEIR CONTINUED USE IS NECESSARY AND TO REPORT ITS FINDINGS TO THE SENATE AND HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The Department of Public Safety shall conduct a thorough examination of its Highway Patrol Division's use of unmarked patrol vehicles to determine whether their continued use is necessary in light of the growing number of instances in which criminals have used unmarked motor vehicles to stop motorists along the state's highways. The department shall complete this examination within six months after the effective date of this joint resolution and shall make its findings available to the Senate and House Judiciary Committees.

SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
