A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND SCANA FOR ONE HUNDRED FIFTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO ENCOURAGE THE COMPANY TO CONTINUE ON ITS PATH OF GREAT SUCCESS.

Whereas, SCANA Corporation is observing its one hundred fiftieth birthday; and

Whereas, although SCANA was created as a holding company in 1984, the earliest companies which merged and evolved into today's modern diversified corporation began in the 1800's; and

Whereas, Lawrence M. Gressette, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of SCANA Corporation has used his outstanding leadership abilities to further the growth and services of SCANA and to promote raising the standards for public education in our State; and

Whereas, newly elected President of SCANA, Bill Timmerman, has devoted the past seventeen years of his life to the advancement and growth of this corportion; and

Whereas, SCANA state government representative Chris Lindsay serves on the Legislative Black Caucus Roundtable and has been instrumental in building a bridge between the caucus and the business community; and

Whereas, more than ten years ago SCANA led the way in installing fiber optics cable along its power lines; and

Whereas, South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G), a subsidiary of SCANA, and the United States Department of Energy signed an agreement on August 8, 1995, which allows for the privatization of the Savannah River Sites's electric, steam generation, and transmission facilities, which will result in new business for SCE&G and savings for the federal government; and

Whereas, SCE&G and Suburban Propane, another subsidiary of SCANA, are meeting the natural gas and propane requirements of many of the state's residential and commercial customers; and

Whereas, SCANA and its subsidiaries have performed exceptionally well in meeting the electric and gas utility, oil and gas exploration, telecommunications, energy marketing, and public transportation needs of its customers for many years; and

Whereas, SCANA continues to create and implement innovative ideas to better serve the needs of its customers. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate SCANA on its one hundred fiftieth anniversary and encourage the company to continue on its path of great success.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lawrence M. Gressette, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, SCANA Corporation, and Bill Timmerman, President, SCANA Corporation.
