A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE MARION T. BURNSIDE OF HOPKINS, RICHLAND COUNTY, MEMBER AT LARGE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES BOARD, FOR BEING NAMED A 1996 JEFFERSON AWARD RECIPIENT IN RECOGNITION OF HIS OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE.

Whereas, Marion T. Burnside of Hopkins, Richland County, was appointed to the South Carolina Wildlife and Marine Resources Commission in 1988 and served as its chairman; and

Whereas, after state government reorganization, he was reappointed as Chairman of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Board and served as chairman until September 1995; and

Whereas, Mr. Burnside has been instrumental in the formation of several organizations concerned with conservation and natural resources; and

Whereas, in recognition of his extensive public service, Mr. Burnside has been awarded the first Columbia Ducks Unlimited Conservationist of the Year Award, the first Quail Unlimited Havilah Babcock Award, the 1995 Environmental Awareness Award, which is the state's highest environmental honor, and the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian award that the Governor can bestow in recognition of outstanding friendship and service to the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Marion T. Burnside was awarded the 1996 Jefferson Award from the American Institute for Public Service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Marion T. Burnside of Hopkins, Richland County, Member At Large of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Board, for receiving the 1996 Jefferson Award in recognition of his life-long service to his community and State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Marion T. Burnside.
