TO REQUEST THE STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT DIVISION AND THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO STUDY THE SAFETY PROCEDURES USED AT CONVENIENCE STORES AND TO REPORT THEIR FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE.
Whereas, convenience stores have become a source of crime throughout South Carolina; and
Whereas, procedures must be implemented statewide to provide safety for persons who work in convenience stores and for convenience store customers who are often victims of crime. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives request that the State Law Enforcement Division and the Department of Public Safety conduct a study of the safety procedures used throughout the State at convenience stores and make recommendations regarding legislation, rules, and regulations that could be adopted in cooperation with convenience store owners that could be implemented statewide to provide a higher level of safety for convenience store customers and employees. The State Law Enforcement Division and the Department of Public Safety shall submit a report of their findings and recommendations to the House Judiciary Committee by January 1, 1997.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to State Law Enforcement Division and the Department of Public Safety.
