TO CONGRATULATE THE REDCLIFFE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OF AIKEN UPON ITS RECEIPT OF A 1996 ELIZABETH O'NEILL VERNER AWARD FOR ARTS IN EDUCATION.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very pleased to learn that the Redcliffe Elementary School in Aiken has been named a 1996 winner of an Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award for Arts in Education by the South Carolina Arts Commission; and
Whereas, for the past seven years, Redcliffe Elementary School and the Greater Augusta Arts Council have worked cooperatively to design and implement an education reform program called Arts Infusion; and
Whereas, believing that the arts are a vital part of the basic education of all children, Redcliffe's kindergarten through fifth grade students receive weekly dance, drama, music, and visual art instruction from full-time specialists in each discipline, complemented by classroom teachers and artists-in-residence; and
Whereas, Redcliffe is a model site for the Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) Project, the State Department of Education Target 2000 Arts Curricula Grants Program, and the Greater Augusta Arts Council; and
Whereas, the school has hosted over seven hundred visitors from more than thirty states and served as a training site for two national arts conferences, and its Arts Infusion program has received support from a wide spectrum of public and private partners who consider this school a standard of excellence in education; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate this exemplary school on the occasion of its receipt of this truly deserved award. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Redcliffe Elementary School of Aiken, upon its receipt of a 1996 Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award for Arts in Education.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Candye Slay of Redcliffe Elementary School.
