A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE SPRINGWOOD LAKE AREA UNITED NEIGHBORS IN RICHLAND COUNTY FOR WINNING THE 1996 NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE YEAR AWARD AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO THIS GROUP FOR MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, Springwood Lake Area United Neighbors in Richland County has worked diligently to revitalize its neighborhood after fifteen years of inactivity; and

Whereas, this organization created several committees in its neighborhood which include crime watch/safety, beautification, and hospitality to promote the advancement of this community; and

Whereas, one of Springwood Lake Area United Neighbors' major accomplishments includes removing two drug houses located in its neighborhood; and

Whereas, several physical improvements that include resurfaced streets, newly planted flowers and bulbs in islands on the streets, and a repainted subdivision sign have been made in this neighborhood; and

Whereas, Springwood Lake Area United Neighbors initiated the project of installing two traffic lights on Parklane Road in Richland County, a major thoroughfare; and

Whereas, the installation of these traffic lights has decreased the number of accidents and diminished traffic considerably; and

Whereas, Springwood Lake Area United Neighbors confronted many obstacles while pursuing its goal to have the two traffic lights installed on Parklane Road, yet the organization dealt with these obstacles by continuously writing letters to county officials and meeting with local community representatives to complete this great task; and

Whereas, this organization's hard work, dedication, and determination to install the two traffic lights on Parklane Road resulted in its winning the 1996 South Carolina Neighborhood of the Year Award in the Physical Revitalization/Beautification Single Neighborhood Category. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Springwood Lake Area United Neighbors for winning the 1996 Neighborhood of the Year Award and wish this organization much continued success in its community projects in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Springwood Lake Area United Neighbors.
