A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING LAURENCE CHAPMAN OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY FOR HIS MORE THAN FORTY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO SCOUTING IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Laurence Chapman of Spartanburg County has served for over twenty-five years as Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts Troop #12 at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Spartanburg; and

Whereas, over one thousand young men in scouting have been the beneficiaries of Mr. Chapman's leadership and service, and he has had over one hundred young men attain the status of Eagle Scout; and

Whereas, he has been a Philmont Leader and Jamboree Leader and served on the staff at old Camp Palmetto and new Camp Bob Hardin; and

Whereas, he has been Palmetto District Chairman and a Palmetto Council commissioner, and he has received the Palmetto Award and the Silver Beaver Award in recognition of his valuable contributions to scouting; and

Whereas, Mr. Chapman probably has felt that his service as scoutmaster of Woodbadge Courses has been the most rewarding and self-fulfilling area of his service to scouting; and

Whereas, he has had more than forty years overall in scouting and has enriched the lives of a huge number of young men by preparing them for adulthood and citizenship; and

Whereas, we are delighted to have this opportunity to recognize and salute such a distinguished gentleman for his many decades of service in scouting. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes and commends Laurence Chapman of Spartanburg County for his more than forty years of outstanding leadership and dedicated service to the scouting in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Chapman.
