A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE WALHALLA HIGH SCHOOL IN OCONEE COUNTY FOR THE HONOR OF BEING SELECTED AS A "NEW AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL" FROM AMONG THREE HUNDRED SCHOOLS NOMINATED NATIONWIDE, AND TO CONGRATULATE AND COMMEND MR. JOHN H. HOSTETLER, PRINCIPAL OF WALHALLA HIGH SCHOOL, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND FOR THE DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE DEMONSTRATED BY MR. HOSTETLER AND HIS FACULTY IN ATTAINING THIS EXCEPTIONAL ACHIEVEMENT.

Whereas, Walhalla High School in Oconee County has been recognized by the United States Department of Education and the National Center for Research in Vocational Education as a "New American High School"; and

Whereas, Walhalla High School was one of ten institutions chosen from among three hundred schools nominated to receive this award; and

Whereas, as a "New American High School", Walhalla High School has personalized its curriculum and has created a learning environment that encourages, coaches, and supports all students in learning core academics as well as in developing self-discipline, good work habits, and technical skills; and

Whereas, Walhalla High School sets high standards for all its students, works diligently with parents, businesses, and colleges and has excelled in blending academic and hands-on learning in engaging and highly effective ways; and

Whereas, as a "New American High School", some of the distinguishing features of Walhalla High are that its students:

- Learn by doing, in classrooms, work places, or community service;

- learn in the context of a career major or special interest;

- work with teachers in small schools within schools;

- use technology which enhances learning;

- receive extra support from adult mentors;

- benefit from strong links between high schools and postsecondary institutions;

- access a wide range of career and college information;

- prepare for college and careers;

- achieve high levels of academic and technical skills; and

Whereas, achieving recognition as a "New American High School" has been under the outstanding leadership of Mr. John H. Hostetler, Principal of Walhalla High School, and through the dedicated effort and commitment to excellence of Mr. Hostetler and his exceptional faculty. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize Walhalla High School in Oconee County for the honor of being selected as a "New American High School" from among three hundred schools nominated nationwide, and congratulate and commend Mr. John H. Hostetler, Principal of Walhalla High School, for his outstanding leadership and for the dedication and commitment to excellence demonstrated by Mr. Hostetler and his faculty in obtaining this exceptional achievement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. John H. Hostetler, Principal of Walhalla High School.
