TO COMMEND VERNON OTT, JR., OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY FOR HIS SEVENTEEN YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY WHILE SERVING ON THE ORANGEBURG COUNTY COUNCIL AND WISH HIM WELL IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Vernon Ott, Jr., was elected to the position of County Councilman representing Council District Number 3 for Orangeburg County in November of 1977, and took office in January of 1978; and
Whereas, before being elected to the office of County Councilman, Vernon Ott served three years on the Branchville Town Council and served as Mayor Pro Tem for three years; and
Whereas, Vernon Ott also served on various other public service organizations including, but not limited to, the Lower Savannah Regional Council of Governments and the Family Health Center; and
Whereas, Mr. Ott was elected Chairman of the Orangeburg County Council by his fellow council members in January of 1983, and served in that capacity until December of 1994; and
Whereas, some of the projects that Vernon Ott was instrumental in implementing were the construction of the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Hospital; the renovation and expansion of the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center and the Orangeburg County Library; remodeling of the Orangeburg County courthouse; establishment of an Orangeburg County Health Services Center, Orangeburg County Human Resources Center, and Orangeburg County Agricultural Center in previously existing buildings; construction of a new animal shelter and a new administrative center; implementation of the Emergency 911 system; and the construction and development of the Orangeburg County Industrial Park; and
Whereas, Vernon Ott, Jr., not only performed his duties as County Councilman but also rendered very valuable and outstanding services through the religious, civic, social, and economic life of the community outside of the governmental areas. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Vernon Ott, Jr., for his seventeen years of dedicated service to the citizens of Orangeburg County while serving on the Orangeburg County Council and wish him well in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Vernon Ott, Jr.
