TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF, ONE OF THIS STATE'S FINEST EDUCATORS, ELIZABETH BELL ABERNATHY OF GREAT FALLS, WHO PASSED AWAY THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1995.
Whereas, Mrs. Elizabeth "Lib" Bell Abernathy of Great Falls passed away Thursday, February 16, 1995, at the Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster; and
Whereas, born in Bethune, she was the daughter of Mrs. Isabelle Blakeley Bell and the late Mr. Oscar Roddey Bell; and
Whereas, Mrs. Abernathy was a graduate of Mitchell College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Lander College; and
Whereas, Mrs. Abernathy, was a retired teacher, having taught at Great Falls Elementary School from 1959-1985, where she was the Teacher of the Year in 1982-83, and was the first woman to serve of the Great Falls Town Council from 1986-1988; and
Whereas, Mrs. Abernathy was an active and loved member of the Mt. Dearborn United Methodist Church, was a member of the UDC and the DAR in Lancaster, and was a competitive member of the Friday Bridge Club in Great Falls; and
Whereas, surviving are her husband, Mr. Harry H. Abernathy Jr., a long-time Attorney-at-Law in Great Falls; her mother, Mrs. Isabelle Blakeley Bell of Lancaster; her son, Harry H. Abernathy III of Walterboro; her daughter, Mrs. Donna A. Bryan of Kingsland, Ga.; her brother, LeHew Bell of Lancaster; and two grandsons, Robert R. Bryan of Parris Island and Jeffrey C. Bryan of Kingsland, Ga. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Mrs. Elizabeth Bell Abernathy of Great Falls who passed away Thursday, February 16, 1995.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mrs. Abernathy.
