A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO OFFER THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ONE OF THIS STATE'S MOST PROMINENT ART EDUCATORS, MS. ELIZABETH SMITH, THE RECIPIENT OF THE 1995 NATIONAL ART EDUCATION ASSOCIATION (NAEA) DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD.

Whereas, Ms. Elizabeth "Liz" Smith taught at the elementary, secondary, and higher education levels where she developed a vision for art education, and through her dedication, commitment, and integrity, she continues to set standards for others to emulate; and

Whereas, Ms. Smith was recognized by the Department of Education as the 1974 South Carolina Teacher of the Year and has been recognized on numerous occasions by the South Carolina Art Education Association (SCAEA) for her many contributions in her field; and

Whereas, Ms. Smith served as President of the SCAEA during its formative years and was instrumental in establishing the association as a viable force in education reform; and

Whereas, Ms. Smith is a member of the SCAEA Board of Directors where she is currently the chair of the Special Projects Committee; and

Whereas, Ms. Smith is a retired art teacher from D.W. Daniel High School in the Pickens County School District and is an active member of the National Art Education Association (NAEA) where she serves as the Director of the NAEA Retired Art Educators Affiliate. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize the outstanding achievements of Ms. Liz Smith, the recipient of the 1995 NAEA Distinguished Service Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Liz Smith.
