A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEMORATE MAY 25, 1995, AS "NATIONAL MISSING CHILDREN'S DAY" IN REMEMBRANCE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S MISSING CHILDREN AND TO RECOGNIZE THE ADAM WALSH CENTER'S COMMITMENT AND EFFORTS TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF CHILDREN AND TO PREVENT THEIR EXPLOITATION AND VICTIMIZATION.

Whereas, President Clinton has recognized May 25, 1995, as "National Missing Children's Day"; and

Whereas, South Carolina is a recognized leader in the fight for the protection of children and has been selected by the United States Department of Justice for the statewide implementation of the Missing and Exploited Children Comprehensive Action Program for the purpose of creating community-based multi-disciplinary teams to address the needs of children and their families; and

Whereas, the South Carolina branch of the Adam Walsh Center is the local affiliate of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and provides direct assistance to the parents and families of missing and exploited children; and

Whereas, the Center assists state and national law enforcement agencies in their efforts to locate missing children; and

Whereas, the Center provides education programs designed to teach children and adults preventive measures to avoid abuse, exploitation, and abduction; and

Whereas, the Center provides assistance to families whose children have been victimized by crime and works closely with the South Carolina Victim Assistance Network; and

Whereas, the Center provides a volunteer speaker's network to educate communities about the issues of child abuse, exploitation, missing children, victims services, and other services provided by the Center. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That May 25, 1995, is set aside as "National Missing Children's Day" as part of South Carolina's continuing efforts to prevent the exploitation and abduction of children.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the South Carolina branch of The Adam Walsh Center.
