COMMENDING CORRECTIONAL OFFICER WILLIE E. LEGGINS FOR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE AND BRAVERY WHILE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF HIS DUTIES DURING A MAIN DISTURBANCE AT THE BROAD RIVER CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION ON APRIL 17, 1995.
Whereas, Correctional Officer Willie E. Leggins rendered exceptional service and exhibited great bravery while in the performance of his duties during a main disturbance at the Broad River Correctional Institution on April 17, 1995; and
Whereas, after observing a suspected inmate running into the cafeteria in a suspicious manner, Officer Leggins immediately entered to investigate when he was attacked by an inmate armed with a knife, he sustained a stab wound and struggled to defend his life; while Officer Leggins was attempting to successfully disarm the inmate, he was struck by another armed inmate and fell to the floor where he was doused with boiling water; and
Whereas, Officer Leggins is highly deserving of recognition and commendation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Correctional Officer Willie E. Leggins for exceptional service and bravery while in the performance of his duties during a main disturbance at the Broad River Correctional Institution on April 17, 1995.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Officer Willie E. Leggins.
