A SENATE RESOLUTION

COMMENDING CORPORAL LESTER J. SHAW FOR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE AND BRAVERY WHILE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF HIS DUTIES DURING A MAIN DISTURBANCE AT THE BROAD RIVER CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION ON APRIL 17, 1995.

Whereas, Corporal Lester J. Shaw rendered exceptional service and exhibited great bravery while in the performance of his duties during a main disturbance at the Broad River Correctional Institution on April 17, 1995; and

Whereas, upon noticing that an armed inmate was in the process of attacking an officer of the law, Corporal Shaw immediately and without regard to his personal safety intervened; in the ensuing struggle with the inmate, Corporal Shaw was seriously wounded, but his intervention saved his fellow officer from further injury; and

Whereas, Corporal Shaw is highly deserving of recognition and commendation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Corporal Lester J. Shaw for exceptional service and bravery while in the performance of his duties during a main disturbance at the Broad River Correctional Institution on April 17, 1995.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Corporal Shaw.
