COMMENDING CORRECTIONAL OFFICER EVADNEY SPRULL FOR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE AND BRAVERY WHILE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF HER DUTIES DURING A MAIN DISTURBANCE AT THE BROAD RIVER CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION ON APRIL 17, 1995.
Whereas, Correctional Officer Evadney Sprull rendered exceptional service and exhibited great bravery while in the performance of her duties during a main disturbance at the Broad River Correctional Institution on April 17, 1995; and
Whereas, upon noticing that a fellow officer had been knocked down and had boiling water poured on him by armed inmates, Officer Sprull immediately and without regard for her own safety reentered the cafeteria area in an effort to protect the downed officer from sustaining further injury; during her brave efforts, Officer Sprull was taken hostage by the insurgent inmates and was the first of three hostages to be released; and
Whereas, Officer Sprull is highly deserving of recognition and commendation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Correctional Officer Evadney Sprull for exceptional service and bravery while in the performance of her duties during a main disturbance at the Broad River Correctional Institution on April 17, 1995.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Officer Sprull.
