A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-1-125 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT BOOKLETS OR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS DESIGNED TO EDUCATE APPLICANTS FOR A SOUTH CAROLINA DRIVER'S LICENSE OR PERMIT SHALL BE PRINTED IN SPANISH AND IN ANY OTHER LANGUAGE IN WHICH THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION FOR THAT PARTICULAR LICENSE IS GIVEN.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 56-1-125. Booklets or instructional materials designed to educate applicants for a South Carolina driver's license or permit shall be printed in Spanish and in any other language in which the written examination for that particular license is given. The Department of Public Safety shall be responsible for implementing the provisions of this section."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect July 1, 1998.
