A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO ENCOURAGE LOCAL CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE, BUSINESS LEADERS AND RETIRED PERSONS THROUGHOUT SOUTH CAROLINA TO VOLUNTEER IN ASSISTING IN THE EDUCATION OF UNDERPRIVILEGED AND RURAL YOUTH OF OUR GREAT STATE.

Whereas, the underprivileged and rural youth of South Carolina are important persons who will play an integral role in the improvement, well being and future of our State; and

Whereas, the underprivileged and rural youth of South Carolina see education as the hope for a better way of life; and

Whereas, the underprivileged and rural youth of South Carolina should be afforded the opportunity to excel in the educational arena; and

Whereas, the underprivileged and rural youth of South Carolina often do not have the necessary family and community resources that allow them to compete in the educational system with the wealthier suburbs and communities of South Carolina; and

Whereas, the underprivileged and rural youth of South Carolina desperately need the precious time and energy of the local chambers of commerce, business leaders and retired persons of our State in order to make serious strides in education. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, encourage the local chambers of commerce, business leaders and retired persons of our State to volunteer in assisting to improve the education of underprivileged and rural youth of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the American Association of Retired Persons.
