TO HONOR THE SEVENTY- FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE COLLEGE OF JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATIONS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO PROUDLY RECOGNIZE THE OUTSTANDING NUMBER OF JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATIONS GRADUATES WHO HAVE BECOME LEADERS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.
Whereas, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina was founded on March 14, 1923, with the General Assembly's approval of the budget for the establishment of the school; and
Whereas, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications has grown from a faculty of one and a student body of five students to twenty-seven faculty members and almost one thousand students; and
Whereas, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, which was founded with print courses, has expanded to include broadcasting, advertising, and public relations; and
Whereas, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications has awarded more than five thousand degrees in journalism and mass communications since the college was founded in 1923; and
Whereas, the College of Journalism and Mass Communications alumni are working around the world as reporters, editors and publishers, radio and television anchors, producers and station managers, advertising and public relations account executives, copy writers, agency presidents, and CEO's in thousands of communications organizations. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina and honor its seventy-five year history of outstanding service to the community, state, nation, and world.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the University of South Carolina College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
