A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR OUR SENATE DEPUTY SERGEANT-AT-ARMS PATRICK H. PRUITT ON THE OCCASION OF HIS LEAVING THE SENATE FOR NEW EMPLOYMENT AS A SPECIAL AGENT WITH THE UNITED STATES SECRET SERVICE AND THANK HIM FOR EIGHT YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE.

Whereas, the members of the Senate have learned with regret that Patrick Pruitt will be leaving the Senate as a Deputy Sergeant-at-Arms on May 29, 1998, after eight years of service, to take a new position with the United States Secret Service that will relocate him to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and

Whereas, Patrick was born September 25, 1968, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and later moved to Summerville where he attended Summerville High School and was a baseball standout; and

Whereas, after moving to Summerville, South Carolina, Patrick was a loyal Boy Scout and developed a love for hunting and fishing that he still holds today; and

Whereas, Patrick's first-ever hunting expedition ended prematurely as he sat on a stump next to his grandfather that he soon discovered to be an active beehive; and

Whereas, Patrick attended the University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie where he played baseball and later transferred to the University of South Carolina in Columbia where by graduation in 1991 he had accumulated three undergraduate degrees: an associate in finance, a bachelor in finance and a bachelor in economics; and

Whereas, Patrick began his employment at the Senate as a page in April of 1990; and

Whereas, Patrick began full-time service for the Senate in February of 1992, in his current position of Deputy Sergeant-at-Arms; and

Whereas, Patrick, commonly known around the Sergeant-at-Arms office as "Grasshopper", is noted for cherishing his break time by taking a chew in the reclining pink chair or for sneaking a doughnut or two when working the back hallway of the Chamber; and

Whereas, Patrick is also known for his calm, cool, and pleasant demeanor on the job and for keeping strict order in the Senate Gallery during session; and

Whereas, Patrick has a bright future ahead of him and will be sorely missed by his many friends that have become family within the Gressette Building and around the Capitol Complex. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate and staff, by this resolution, hereby congratulate Deputy Sergeant-at-Arms Patrick Pruitt on his new employment with the United States Secret Service and thank him for eight years of outstanding service to the South Carolina Senate.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Patrick H. Pruitt.
