A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING JOSEPH H. JEFFERSON, JR., FOR HIS SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION.

Whereas, Joseph H. Jefferson, Jr., of Pineville has represented the Sixth Congressional District as a member of the South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission from 1994 to 1998; and

Whereas, Mr. Jefferson has served as the Commission's Second Vice Chairman in 1995 and First Vice Chairman in 1996, and has rendered outstanding service during a period when the South Carolina Department of Transportation has been rated in an independent study as the most efficient transportation agency in the nation; and

Whereas, Mr. Jefferson has taken a lead role in accelerating progress toward widening U.S. 52 between Kingstree and Moncks Corner to four lanes, a project which will enhance economic development in Williamsburg and Berkeley counties; and

Whereas, Mr. Jefferson is the Equal Employment Officer for the Defense, Finance and Accounting Services of the Department of Defense in Charleston, and hosts a talk show discussing topics of local interest on Radio Station WTUA-FM in St. Stephen; and

Whereas, Mr. Jefferson has served his community and state in numerous other capacities such as with the Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester Chamber of Commerce, as the Combined Federal Campaign coordinator, and on the board of the Trident United Way; and

Whereas, Mr. Jefferson is active in the Daydawn Baptist Church where he serves as senior deacon, and he and his wife, Delores, have three children, Trena, Marva and Joseph Jefferson III. Now therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize and commend Joseph H. Jefferson, Jr., of Pineville, for his outstanding public service as a member of the South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission and in many other ways.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
